I have a 2008 Ford F-450 and have a few questions about the replacement of the DPF exhaust pipe system. I’m assuming that some of you Ford F-450 guys have done this.
It has been suggested that I will need a Magnaflow exhaust kit, product number 16981, to replace existing pipes from the DPF back to the exhaust tip. In addition an aFe DPF delete pipe, product number 49-43022.
The stock exhaust is a 3” system and the replacement exhaust is a 4” system. At what point does the 3” to 4” transition occur? Will the above suggested aFe DPF delete pipe handle the transition without having to make and fit a transition piece?
In discussion with Magnaflow they tell me the 16981 pipe system is for a Ford F-350 and will not work for the F-450. What have you F-450 guys done and whose pipe system have you used?
I will probably have more questions so if any of you guys are agreeable to a phone call please send me a PM with your phone number and I will contact you.
You dont need an entire DPF back kit unless you really want it. When i deleted my DPF i ONLY wanted the two delete pipes so as to keep the factory exhaust look. I live in TX so i dont expect any problems with being deleted, but i travel a lot so staying factory "look" was what i wanted. If you really want an entire new exhaust system then im no help, sorry.
I pieced my exhaust together. Down pipe, delete pipes and muffler section.
You can just buy a "Downpipe back" system which included delete pipes and tail pipe sections. That way you can have 4 or 5" of same diameter exhaust. Rather than 3" to 4" to 3" to 4".
OK, guys think we're getting close here. I was trying to get the 4" exhaust and DPF delete from the down pipe back. Is that doable and if so where does the transition from 3" to 4" occur? At the end of the down pipe, after the DPF delete pipe, or someplace else?
Again what has been suggested to me was the Magniflow 4" from the DPF back and the aFe delete pipe. That should take me from the down pipe back, yes or no?

The exhaust is in this order from the turbo: Downpipe, CAT/DOC, DPF, MUFFLER & tailpiece. If you buy a delete pipe(s) and a DPF back tail pipe, you'll have a 3" down pipe with crimps in it restricting flow, transitioned to a 4" delete, then a 3" joint connecting to a 4" tailpipe. Your better off finding a "Downpipe back" system or a "turbo back" system.
OK, posted my issue on this forum to get advise and suggestions. Would be a mistake to not implement your suggestions.
So here's where I'm at, based on your suggestions, I have decided to just replace the DPF with a DPF delete pipe only. Will not change out the pipe system after the DPF.
So now I need to know what brand pipe to get and where to get it. Also need to know if stainless steel is worth the extra cost.
We're getting close to the change over guys so stay with me here, keep your suggestions coming.
I recently did the DPF delete using an afe pipe purchased with a GearboxZ tuner. Total cost was $705.00 plus a new DPFgasket and EGT probe ($180). Very happy with it so far.
OK, here's where I'm at. Purchased aFe DPF delete pipes yesterday. Should get them late next week. Will do the tune and pipe change soon. Can't wait to get this project off my to-do list. I'll report again when it's done and after a few test drives.
Will probably do the EGT temp later. One thing at a time.

I've been contemplating doing this as well for my '08 F350 SRW CC.
I'm curious...When you say your very happy with it do you mean your fuel mileage (mine sucks) or more power, or......?
Before I spend hard earned cash I'd like to have some idea of what to expect.
Thanks for any input.
About one and a half to two MPG increase, already had plenty of power, NO MORE REGENS. That was the only goal. Note: Don't believe the you tube videos, have a gasket and EGT probe handy. They do not always come out in one piece!
