super sexy swinging headers!

ha, manifolds came!

Other than being old, dirty and rusty. Do they look ok? It looks like parts are missing.. but from what I can see on others that's the way they are built. Also, I assume most people plug up the threaded hole with a cap or something?

In my world, I restore cast iron items. But maybe these are different. How do you guys clean them up? Wire wheel, scotchbright, acetone, then some hight temp VHT primer? Or treat them like an old cast iron pan I found? (oven setting on clean mode, olive oil, bake again, olive oil, season). lol.

just waiting on my muff. all excited.

Are you going with the Walker down pipe? What muffler are you planning on running?
I plan on pulling a set next time I stop by the jy, and was wondering if I shouldn't try and snag the stock pipes and just cut at the cat.

Well you're ahead of my schedule with the upgrade. I just got an offy c which was the first on my list before I started gathering other parts. Now I'm going to pull the efi manifolds.
I'm going to wait and see how you like the walker and muffler combo, though I haven't thought about the muffler yet.
What intake and carb did you decide on going with?

Do you have access to blast the manifolds? Might be easier then wire wheeling them.

Just plug the threaded holes. They are for o2 sensors, and come in extremely handy when dialing in your carb with a wide band gauge. Use copper anti seize on the threads.

What I'm planning on doing is taking an oem dual pipe from the jy and running duals out the back on one side. I'm goint to take the tail pipes from the jy too, I believe. Oh, and throw in an X fitting somewhere.

I might have access to a blaser. idk.. good idea tho! use some anti seize to paint or vht primer at least..idk. The Y pipe has an O2 hole on it, I figured I'd plug an O2 into it and plug her in for diag at random times or something.
A 86' 300 is being rebuilt right now along with the stock carter carb. Paint'n block, removing all the bs. etc. Then we are just going to swap motors on over and do up this exhaust. I'll do intake later, when moniez is there. When I did get to hear a 300 on that Jones muff, it sounded bloody good! I think duals would sound pretty sweet too

I didn't have a plug for the EGR opening, so I cut the pipe off just above the fitting, cut a cross pattern in it, hammered it in on itself so it would support the weld puddle when I welded it closed. I just cleaned up the male part that fits into the Y pipe with a wire wheel, so it would make a good seal. I also had to grind the inside nub off the firewall side manifold to clearance it from hitting the Offenhauser C series intake with heat plate on.

ah yeah? daaam. all 3 holes look good.. as far as I can see..

Just got a quote from a local machine shop. $85 for the pair of headers to be blasted and plained. is that a decent deal? Thought about just laying them on my sanding belt to plain.. but think I'll let them do that with all their magic.

I'd try degreasing then some naval jelly before I paid $85 to have them blasted.

I surfaced mine on my belt sander to make sure they were flat, and to make them the same thickness as the Offenhauser intake. They ended up flat and within a few hundredths of the intake. I wasn't sure how they would come out, but I had a backup set, so I went for it. Turned out well. I kept the natural rust patina on everything but the mating surfaces.

Yeah? Awesome. Hm.. just try and lay down as flat as possible, i assume the belt is running horizontally. .. run some 400. flip the other way and run a bit more.
Think I can take care of the rust with electrodialysis or yes, vinager, somebrandruststuff.
bake, grind, whatever. I'll stop by the store today and get some stuff..

I have 48x6 inch belt sander, but a 36" would work just as well. I had it in the horizontal position. I went slow and checked the thickness often. The old rust and soot acted like a guide coat, you can tell if your not holding it flat or if its warped (mine were warped). It might have been smarter to let a machine shop surface them, but I'm on too tight a budget.
