horn quit working and dealer said i needed new clock-spring? which means a couple solid hours labor dismantling the steering column. i just can't see paying $400 bucks for that...can i tap the hot on the horn and run a relay off a momentary switch into the cab to make it work?
You could rig something up for the horn. You may be left with no cruise, and more importantly, no airbag though. No airbag warning light on? I thought this is an all-or-nothing thing, hopefully someone can chime in and confirm.
My wife said that if I could just get my road rage under control then I wouldn't really need a horn...might get an airhorn now just to spite her.
Thanks for the comments.
With the proper puller, this can be replaced in about 15 minutes. Getting the wheel off is the hardest part. Don't bother attempting if you don't have a wheel puller. You'll get pissed off or worse, you'll break something.
If you want some hokey looking button on the dash for your horn be my guest.

Quite obviously this wouldn't work well for a reasonably new, decked out truck. But for an old beater, or one used on the farm, or one just for occasional power use, I would find it perfectly acceptable.
Lighten up Francis (no harm intended, just a 30 year old TV joke).
I'm no tech genius but the video redford provided does make the job look a helluva lot easier than I expected. I tend to gauge the difficulty level by how much the dealer charges...that just might not be a good practice :/
