I have owned 7.3's in the past and always heard nightmares about the 6.0. The more I read, they seem to be better than I would have thought. What should I look for and what should I stay away from. I would have thought to stay away from the first year although I read somewhere the EGR was better on the '03. I was looking at an '03 F250 crew cab 8'bed 4x4. It seems to run real good with no visible blow by and only what seems to be a small leak at the back of the engine. 206K It was manufactured 02/03. I am not sure if that is early or late for Ford truck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

for the leak make sure it's not the bed plate hopefully it's just to much oil 13 1/2 anything more could have the ever lasting bell housing drip. the Early built has the better EGR round cooler late built is Squire and has some problems, your best bet would be to get a Gauge like scan Gauge torx app Dash boss, that will help look at the health of the 6.0 , anything coolant wise green would be a key to ( run) away . always be the first to start a cold engine this will help in Injectors clatter or fire right up, on the Gauge you can check FICM, ICP, ICPV,IPR,EOT and ECT on warm 60 mile MPH flat road delta no more than 15 deg spread, the FICM no less than 45 V should stay at 48/47.5 you can also get VGT for the Turbo .
