Key Fob

I need (want) to get a key fob for my 05. The dealer said there are 2, 3, 4, button fobs for that year but he couldn't tell me which one I needed. Maybe someone here can help, thanks.

If it is from the factory, you need part # F87Z-15K601-AA 3 button

They claim OEM Quality if you are looking for a cheaper alternative.

Just adding to jpr38057's input:

Ford Parts site doesn't explicitly call it a three-button for some reason, it is described as a Type-6 with symbols Lock, Unlock, Panic. They also have a two button and four button all under part number 15K601, so double check the details before you commit!

Here's a link to the OEM part for example:

Mine didn't come with key fobs. I had one from a mid 90's Capri laying around (old kids car 4 button) and it works just fine. Except the trunk button on the remote doesn't do anything. I also have an eBay el cheapo 3 button and it works fine too.

Thanks.

So I need a three button fob.

I'm going to Columbus OH this weekend and check Pep Boys. The Pep Boys at home in VA has them. Less then a dealer but more then Amazon. And if it doesn't work I can walk back in the store and get a new one on the spot.

Yeah, considering you can buy a motherboard for a computer for less than that. I've never opened one up to see what kind of HW is used (tempted to now), but I can't imagine manufacturing costs being more than a couple bucks, if even that, to cover everything from assembly to getting them to the shelves.

When I priced them at the dealership it was $70 plus another $40 for "programing"

As I recall programing was a couple key turns some button pushing and tada your done. Not worth $40

As a guy who likes to help folks with tech stuff just because I find it fun, I get frustrated when dealerships and shops want to make you pay an arm and a leg for BS things like making your fob work.

I bought similar cheap ones for my 05 Ex...it's been a little over a year and one of the batteries is starting to die. Easy enough to replace, though. Well worth the $5 I think I paid per unit.

Ebay 2 for 10 bucks. Works great.
You can easily program yourself.
Gives the word STEALER new meaning, doesn't it ?
