I have a 74 F100 2wd 302 Auto that i purchased several years ago for $200. so far I have about $300 in parts in it. Last fall we decided that we needed to get rid of some of the "specialty" vehicles and make things have multi purpose. I convinced the wife that it would be nicer to get rid of the Excursion and keep the 74. After reading and reading and reading, I believe that the 74 might not be the truck I need. We camp alot and would be pulling a camper with this truck I really don't think I would be happy with how the 302 would pull, and in order for my wife to spend much time in it, it needs ALOT of work.
I have a line on a believe 77 F250 2wd SC that I can pick up for $700. Over all it is in nice shape, but I know the truck. When I was about 14 we moved close to a car lot. In the back lot was this truck. Fast forward, a couple of years ago the man owning the car lot died, and another car lot bought all the cars, including this truck. It has been sitting for around 26 years, and the title has been lost. It is already set up to pull including hitch and brake control as well as I believe a 6 pin plug. I also believe it has a 400 in it.
I really don't want to sell my 74 but in order to buy the sc I would need to. What are your thoughts? Will post pics of sc in a min.
If I was in your place I would deff get the Supercab, it looks very clean and for that price its a steal. But if the 74 has emotional value to you nothing will ever replace that but shoulda like you got some history with the Supercab as well. It's all personal preference at the end of the day
If the extended cab runs, I would say buy it just because it is a steal. The truck looks like it is in great shape. But, like they said above there is no replacing the emotional connection we all have with our trucks. I'd say if you can get over that, go for it. That is a real solid truck for the money.
If i came across a better truck that i could afford, i would strip what i want off mine and sell it in a minute. I have no emotional bonds to vehicles.
Your wife must be a great lady to give up an Excursion for a dent, kudos to you.👍
Thanks all for your thoughts. I will go buy it this afternoon. I don't really have emotional attachment but it has been such a good truck. Done anything and everything I have asked.
I do have a great wife. I have bought around 5 dents over the years as projects and had to sell them because we needed money. She also knows we can get more out of the ex than my 74. Guess they will both be up for sale.
Actually that is part of why I didn't jump on it last year. But I have talked to several people and am fairly comfortable with the process to get a title. In Iowa, they have a process called a bonded title. You fill out paper work and the state looks up VIN and trys to find original owner. If they cannot or the po doesn't respond to states letters then you can get a bonded title. This means that you pay a portion of the value of the vehicle to the State and they hold it for 3 years. If after 3 years no one has tried to claim the vehicle, you get a new clean title.
Well, the super cab is in my driveway!! I found out some more info on it. After looking it over, I don't think this is the truck I thought it was. There is a Missouri Inspection sticker from 2007 on windshield. I was told by the guy I bought it from that they said the engine had been replaced. Looks like factory so they did a nice job. I noticed alot of wire splices under the hood, all right were the wiring comes into the engine bay. Then as I was trying to wash all the gunk off the truck and I notice a large area in the center of the hood was " different". Now I believe that there was an engine fire. No biggy, truck is still in great shape. Trying to get fuel system cleaned out and working on title process. Not planning on doing much with her, just clean it up and drive.
+yeah, thats gone, the seat is deteriorated, looks like from age more than wear. seat backs are in excellent shape as is the back seat and panels. Door panels look to be brittle and dash pad is bad. Someone stole the radio at some point and bent the dash, broke bezel and heater controls. But, I know I have a bezel and elieve I have heater controls. I pull that stuff from all the trucks I pick parts from. Haven't looked yet, but I believe all the gauges are new, temps gauge is wrong, think from an 80's truck, but i have one of those also.
