at witts end

Long story short I just had a boatload of repairs done to my truck y-pipe, new hpop and injectors all oem parts. After installing injectors #8 contribution code still popped up and truck ran like crap missing. So got a replacement injector for #8, after a day u guessed it missing and #8 code and small puffs of black smoke. Checked atlas tuned ficm from ed via torque app and volts test good. Any ideas? Icp? Wiring harness? Can ficm still be bad woth good volts?

I would check for chaffing and or bent pin at the injector plug.

Try a bubble test

Hopefully it's not a base engine issue. If all else fails,, run a compression test.

As bobcat said I would check the wiring harness connector at the injector. They make a distinct sound when fully connected. Another possibility is a broken wire at the connector. Another option is to ring out the injector harness from the FICM to the #8 injector. Service manual has the wiring diagram.

Check things that others have said to check but check the injector/harness connection. Make sure that all of the pins are accounted for. I've seen where one of the pins pushed out of it. I would guess that somebody didn't have a pin lined up with a hole and forced the plug together pushing a pin out of it.

not good news with contribution test:(

Well after all other sources contribution test on #8 failed at just over 10% and #6 is passing barely.source of blow by and rough running I think its time to part ways with my baby.. to much cash out and I need to stop the bleeding. New injectors, hpop, ypipe, ficm repaired (by ed), rear fender body/paint repaired.and it has been bullet proofed too. Ugh... im sick tp my stomach. 143k new heads and arps at 100k

ahh--were they oem? Just curious myself as I learning all I can.
Shouldn't they be under warranty? Wonder what could be causing them to fail so quickly?

Yes a FICM can have acceptable voltage and still be faulty on the module side. but definitely look at the harness especially where the connectors go along the valve cover and the along the intake before they make the turn to the FICM.

Yes oem, injectors I will have ed look at ficm before I send my truck to the abyss. I dont know how a harness could cause ccompression loss, also had # 8 injector swapped out because I thought my problem was that injector I wish.

I gotcha--compression loss is the issue. Hopefully you can get it figured out without much more $$. It would be a shame to have to get rid of it after having all of that work done.

Cylinder Contribution

Cylinder contribution is not necessarily a injector problem. It can be a factor in poor contribution but is actually the measurement of how well the cylinder and all of it's components handles the combustion event and the energy created in relation to all of the other cylinders.

This could be poor compression or other component damage or malfunction.
A mechanical malfunction of the cylinder or it's components.
It can also be a command problem, for some reason the pcm is telling the ficm to pulse the injector at the wrong time in engine rotation.
Resulting in a weaker bang or no bang at all.
