I have a 99 XLT w/4.8 (66K) . I just had an injector and fuel system cleaning at Pep Boys, cleaned and reoiled the K&N air filter, but I am still having a hesitant (shakey) acceleration. When I try to accelerate hard, I can feel the truck pulling hard, but it feels like its missing or something. Its kind of hard to explain. Once the truck gets up to about 65 mph or so, it does fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.:-staun
Was told that may be your 02 module...cost about 90$ to replace. I am buying a 2000 expedition and the company I'm buying it from is having that fixed right now before the purchase.
When was the last time you had the tranny fluid flushed/filled? The transmissions in these trucks are solid and sturdy, but they are very finicky when it comes to the fluid. Ford recommends you change the fluid every 30K. I follow that schedule, and I use synthetic ATF which is actually good for almost 50K.
If it's been more than 30K miles since your last transmission fluid change, you should have it done.
try cleaning your maf sensor since you have a k&n filter oil tends to dirty the little wires just get some electrical contact cleaner and give it a hosing.
I agree with craigthowell,
I too had some hesitation, I took a look at my MAF sensor and those little guys were BLACK .
First I disconnected the negative terminal on the battery to reset the computer. (Important to do, you want the computer to re-learn the information coming from the MAF sensors.)
Then I shot those puppies with Brake Kleen, (when the engine is cold.. the sensors need to be cool before cleaning) a couple of times until the silver came back on them. I let the MAF dry before reconnecting it and the negative battery cable. (Let it sit for 15 minutes to make sure the computer will reset)
As soon as I started the engine, you could tell the difference with the idle.
Hope this helps and good luck!
I don't mean to sound ignorant, but I haven't been able to find a manual for my truck and don't know exactly where the MAF sensor (or sensors?) is. Any input would be appreciated. But just so y'all know I had all the spark plugs changed, and that made a world of difference. They were all way shot. Again, thanks for any input on MAF sensor location.
