New Here. Need Help

Hi guys,
I'll state this first, I don't know a lot about cars/trucks but I am trying to learn. My dad recently passed his 1976 Ford F-250 on to me. I just had a new rebuilt 390 put in. I have been told that it would be worth while to put cold air intake in it. Looking online I haven't found anything made for it. Can anyone help me out? What do I need, where to find it? Maybe how to install too? Current intake system is stock. I'd greatly appreciate any feedback. I apologize if this seems like a dumb question but again, I'm learning.

Thanks

I doubt a cold air intake is going to be worth the trouble. If it was a bolt-on unit, that would be one thing. But if it has to be fabbed, the benefits will probably not outweigh the costs.

If you are set on doing it, someone here will be able to help. Does the motor have headers? Headers can get you a lot of power pretty easily.

X2 on headers being the first thing to upgrade on an FE. Let it breath.

Could we see some pictures? Here is how.

But I got ta say becoming a supporter is the fastest and easiest way to post pics right from
your whatever pad/cell thing or home computer.
Few of us look in the users Gallery or album as you can see by your recent visitors.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
The best photos and videos | Photobucket

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

Here's a tutorial Bob put together: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/67...-pictures.html Bob's link is not working. Can someone in the know tell me why?

How to upload pictures to the FTE Forums. - YouTube. Thanks Sam Rusty_Old_F250. Best we can find is that this video was done by Gundown64

To be honest I don't know enough to know what I am looking for. I was just told that changing the intake was something I should do. When I say I don't know much I really mean next to nothing besides the basics to changing oil and minor maintenance.

If I was you, I would either keep the factor air cleaner and just change the filter, or get a air cleaner like this http://m.summitracing.com/parts/edl-1223

Or any round air cleaner, they look great and are a great addition. Just measure out the hight and the diameter and make sure that it will fit.

That's a clean looking engine. Those are actually stock manifolds; the term "header" refers to an aftermarket upgrade where each cylinder runs out in its own pipe to the collector, instead of a grouped manifold.

By the way, that wire nut on what looks like your blower motor has got to go. Looks like a butt splice into a wire nut for added sloppiness. Not OK!

Cold air intakes are next to useless unless they are actually designed to draw air in from outside the engine compartment. They are excellent for drawing money out of your wallet though. You will be money ahead to just buy a quality air cleaner element and keep factory set up. And if you dont decide to buy headers get a Good exhaust system.
