OK guys....this is screwy. I took my timing belt off again and realigned the timing marks. I'm glad to say that the backfiring problem is fixed, BUT NOW I HAVE THE TICKING SOUND TOO! I'm beginning to think I am destined to never get my truck running right.
lblevins12, have you got rid of your ticking somehow?
P.S. What the heck does the auxillary shaft do, and how is it supposed to line up? I know mine moved while I was putting the belt on because it easily moved by hand.
The MMM is a good cleaning oil, sorta like Dexron transmission fluid. It will help de-gunkify your lifters, & other areas, and the fairly light viscosity will allow the lifters to pump up fast when they get clean. (Yes, put it in your oil). A little Gunk ValveMedic might help too (it cleans really good).
I still haven't figured that one out. One of my replies to someone in this forum is that it could have been simply a major coincidence that the taping started at the same time the belt was changed ... stuff like that happens to me all the time. But, if additives don't affect the sounds of your lifters AT ALL, then I would suspect that there is actually some mechanical anomaly associated with the belt change. That still illudes me. But I'm still thinking.............
