I'm interested in having a custom overhead console fabricated for my new F150 but the place that used to do them for me no longer does so. I'm looking to insert a CB and possible a couple of rocker switches for future accessories in the console.
Does anyone know of a shop that might do this work in Northern Indiana? I'm willing to travel into Illinois or Lower Michigan as well. I am striking out in locating one.
If you have some patience it's not too hard to build a nice overhead console yourself!! After striking out finding an aftermarket one and seeing the STUPID prices for a custom - this is what I did! Has the CB slot, 6 Contura switches from OTTRATTW, sunglass slots on each side and a slot in the back for an ipod or whatever.
Thanks RUNVS! I read through your entire thread and love what you did with yours. It just requires a skill set I don't own
Hence the reason for locating a place to fabricate one. In my '92 I had a local company here near me produce one for $50! Yes you read that correct. Obviously that was 22 years ago and he did me a great favor with that price. Unfortunately they no longer do that kind of work.
Your console is awesome. Really a phenomenal job on it. Congrats and yes I'm very envious
Thanks, SRS. You don't need to make it as complex as I did either, I just didn't want it to look generic when I was done. I remember years ago JC Whitney used to have wood overhead consoles. I know before I built this one I looked about everywhere and couldn't find one to buy! I see a lot of guys asking, I can't believe someone doesn't make them commercially.
When I did mine I took it to the local custom stereo shop for them to cover it; they wouldn't touch it! Said it was way too complex, LOL!!

You could always consult a high end stereo shop. They build custom enclosures and consoles all the time. Might be something to check into.
That was my first attempt lol! I've gone to the same shop for stereo work since 1978. Yes, he's that good and been business that long... Unfortunately he said he doesn't do the overhead console stuff. I'm still hunting...
Might be able to find another stereo shop, keeping my fingers crossed.
