Need some front end help please
2004 PSD 4x4 72k.
I thought I would be proactive so I bought the front ball joints and have plans to install them but recently I starting hearing (and feeling) a clicking sound in the front LEFT when I make sharp turns to the left and hit small bumps now and again. I jacked up the front end and am able to get 1/4" of movement front to back (top to bottom so not steering) in the wheel. I narrowed it down to the hub. I took it apart and it is most likely a sealed unit so no adjustment is possible....that I can see.
I pulled out the locking hub and got as far as I can to know there is not an adjustment.
Can someone please confirm that it indeed is a sealed bearing and if so guide me in the right direction as to the part number(s) I may need to repair it.
Thank you very much for the help
Joe
You will need 2 seals. There is a thread on here about balljoints. Shows how to do everything.

Racerguy has a good article on here also...Make sure parts are for your year..

I called FORD and gave the guy my VIN since there are variations in wheel hub assy's.
The dude gave me the part number F81Z1104BA but he reiterated the threads were coarse.....I am pretty sure my threads are the 8x170mm pattern and fine
The other part number he gave me before I gave him my VIN is 3C3Z1104BA- which is a fine thread stud.
Can anyone please help me with this problem that is starting to make me crazy. Maybe I am fkd up and I thought I knew the difference between coarse and fine

I want to order a TIMKEN or SAF brand but I need to make sure I order the right one.

You mentioned you used both.....which did YOU prefer/ had better service life with?
....and since you have a great understanding of what I am doing can you confirm this is the axle seal I need (or do I need the more expensive w/ dust shield)
Thanks for helping me out ( REPS to you by the way)
Joe
Not the exact knuckle seal but will work. Use Motorcraft and install with a driver you make or the special tool, they are too expensive to bind. Dealer will install for cheap usually if you carry axles in.
"The original 1st design knuckle seal design is unshielded and was used from 1999 to early 2002. A 2nd design, redesigned seal with a shield on the inboard side was introduced in 2002 calendar year as a 2003 model year part. The early seals will work on all 1999-2004 Super Duty's. The later shielded seal will only fit outer axles with a step diameter of approximately 3.115". Most trucks built prior to mid 2002 will have outer shafts with a step diameter of 3.210" which will not accept the shielded seal."
