I just registered today and i need some help with my truck. i just got a 78 F250 and i cannot get a good brake at all. I have a new master cylinder, new prop. valve, lines, wheels cylinders, shoes, drums, e brake cables, and calipers. I have properly bled the master cylinder and all the lines and adjusted the rear drums. My problem is the right rear locks up very easily, making it unsafe to drive anywhere. I feels like the fronts are doing nothing at all, but it has a good flow of pressure when bleeding them. The pedal was low so i put in prop. valve, and it brought it up nice, but the wheel still locks up. Im thinking of trying different shoes and cut the drums, but first i wondered if anyone has experienced anything like this before. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
When my brakes get sticky it is usually from the rear axle seal leaking into the drum.
Make sure the rear shoes are on correctly, the one with the longer lining goes toward the rear of the vehicle. Also make sure the calipers are on the right side, with the bleeder screw at the top.....I unfortunatley just made that mistake.
Along with Tellico's excellent advice, check the master cylinder pushrod length. Measure the depth in the MC, and determine how far the pushrod needs to go to bottom in the MC with about 1/16" play. Then adjust the pushrod accordingly. (Don't forget to allow for the MC flange measurement, that goes into the booster.)
