Question Highboy?? 79'Ranger??

Ok, this may sound like a pretty lame question... But How do you tell a highboy from anything else? My grandfather said his '77 f150 custom Np205,np435 was a highboy, yet the suspension looked the same in the back as my '79 f250 Ranger... How can I get info on what the different packages had to offer? And what came with what Looks like I have four inch blocks in the back of my truck with a standard leaf pack, and the front leafs are a little under level. Any info would be great!! Thanks...

Your Grandfathers 77 F-150 resembles your 79 F-250 because neither are "Hi-boys". "Hi-boy" is slang given by the public to the the 67-early 77 F-250 4x4s. It is not a factory option. There has always been allot of confusion on this topic and even more threads in here about it. Do a search and you'll come up with more info than you'll ever need.

Ok thanks, I was thinking that actual "highboys" were the split transfercase/ tranny four wheel drive tucks of the sixties and early seventies... but right on!

The 67-early 77 F-250 4x4s do have the divorced t-case, so your on the right track. The only actual Ford Hiboys were a 30s (40s?) car.

Flexibility. It is easier to flex the narrower frame with a divorced transfer case.

AAaaahhhh....... Well Then ME thinks they shoulda kept that design!! I have to find a scanner and upload some of my pics of the first time I tested my trucks capabilities off road, I went a little extreme, especially for a 3/4 ton longbed, bed I left after a week with a scratched rocker panel, a busted antenna, and I froze a wheel bearing 6 months down the road because I didnt repack the bearings after fording 4 feet of water for a half mile upstream... great pics though, and will come with time!!

Although Hi-Boy is slang, I think, I read in Fodor's Standard Cataloge of Light Duty Trucks (which I can no longer find), Ford put out some F250's, in 1976 and 1977, with factory lifts. is there any truth to that?

They all have a lift, 2 inches in the rear and 4 in the front. That is compared to F100, F150, and F350 4x4's
