Ford flat head pros and cons

I would like to put a flat head V8 back in my 53. Does anyone have one in their truck? What kind of transmission can you run behind one?

The flat V8 bellhousing for a '53 truck is a one-year-only part, and hard to find. And I think it's a different one for a 3-sp or a 4-sp, not that anyone would consciously put a spur-gear 4-sp in one. Then I think you'll find that the T5's input shaft is too short, maybe not. You could do a C4 or AOD but you would have to fab up a new rear mount, but maybe you already have one?

Has your truck been modified for whatever is in it now?

I'm putting a 68 Ford 4 spd Toploader with a Jeep topshifter
I'll still have a 1:1 top gear but the 1st-4th are syncro

The mercury car bell housing and truck bell can be mated to an adapter.I am pretty sure offy,trans dapt,speedway and all regular places sell them for a t-5 conversion.This way you can leave your old low geared rear and have all around good power and highway cruiseing.

Yes I put in a cross member for the chevy 350. It came with the chevy and had old style motor mounts on the front of the engine.
