The "Engine Electronic Control, generation 4" is the computer that controls the EFI (and some carbs in the mid 80s) and electronic automatic transmissions. It appeared around '84 and was used all cars & trucks until '96, when all trucks under 8500 lb GVWR and all cars went to OBD-II. The heavy trucks went OBD-II a year or so later.
I agree. Try to write in proper English using standard punctuation, or as close as you can. You didn't ask ANYTHING about plug wires, cap, or rotor, so I didn't say it mattered.
Apparently it does matter for distributor cap, etc... I had the same issue the first time I bought tune-up stuff for my '85 Bronco. They asked if it was EEC-IV or not. I had no idea so I just went out in the parking lot and looked at the spark plug wire connections on the distributor cap. Went back inside and bought the right one.
I'm trying to find out what the eec-iv is and does.I've benn told that it is on some broncos and some it is not.I'm tring to find some better parts for my bronco than the factory stuff.
When i went to the parts store to get cap, rotor, and plug wires they asked if it was eec-iv.I said that it wasn't and they said they didn't have the parts. They had the parts if it was eec-iv.
My question is what is eec-iv and what does it do,also why does it take different parts?
I told you what it is & does in my first post. What year is your truck? What engine? Does it have a carburetor or is it EFI? The distributor on a computer-controlled engine has no internal advance mechanism, so it's made differently and takes different parts.
Sorry should have stated that.I have a 87 bronco 351w ho.
It does have a carb.
The parts place said that it didn't matter if it was eec-iv for the dist cap, but it did for the plug wires.
So if the dist cap is the same for both why wouldn't the plug wires be the same?Is there something specail about the plug wires?
The 351W didn't go EFI until '88, along with the 460. The 302 was available as EFI as early as '84, but it and the 300 went EFI in '87.
The plug wires shouldn't be significantly different (maybe size or resistance), so buy whatever they have. If you're worried, go to a better parts store and get the right ones.
