The suspension should be the same regardless of cab arrangement/wheelbase. The V code is what comes with the diesel. The 7.3 long block weighs 1005 lbs dry (no fluids). I know on the scale my front axle is supporting just over 4400 lbs (no driver) before I load anything into the cab.

I've not looked into lifts but I think anything past an X code spring pack or a block is going to roughen the ride. I know that Deaver has a 12-leaf front spring pack for a lift (the OEM V code has a main spring and an aux spring for a total of 2 springs). I don't think I'd make it more than a day before my teeth would be chipped and I'd bite my tongue from all that bouncing.

Yes, it just seems the longer the truck the more weight would be on the front end. And I agree with the bouncing, its bad enough here on the freeways they can't seem to make smooth.

These springs came on the front of the E99 F-250 I took over on 3/1/14. I couldn't hold a cup of coffee and ride down the road let alone drink it.

I had them removed and had the 43-818's installed they work fine for me. Those are the Ford 'X' spring. My door code is a 'V'. It looks like the 'X's are recommended as replacement.
Here is a link to the codes for the springs as well. I found it to be informative.

So Mark, who told you the X code is recommended for replacement, Ford? I know these stock springs are to weak I just don't want something stuffer then we have to have.
Those springs you took off didn't move at all.

If you peruse the link I posted to SD truck springs and check the charts where they identify the codes and the year of the truck that's all they show. I do believe they have the 'V' code springs listed too but they were harder to find. The difference between the two is in the thickness of the spring itself and it is not a big difference.

I saw the 43-818 but didn't see the X code or V code mentioned. I'll look again.

Almost, but there is another spring available between the V code and the X code, and that's a W code spring.

The V code spring was not a spring specific to the diesel trucks. V's could be found on the V10 too, and X codes were put on diesel trucks too, when equipped with the snow plow package.

As I posted in the other thread where you and I are discussing the springs from SD Springs, the 43-818's are not the same specs as X code springs.

Be careful when looking for OEM spec'd equipment at an aftermarket spring company. For info on what I mean, see this link: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post12515006

We had a fairly in depth discussion about this about a year ago.

The X code springs were for trucks equipped with the plow package.
They are physically stiffer springs to comp the extra weight of the plow...
Stiffer springs... stiffer ride.

If you go back with fresh V codes and a set lift shackles i think you would be better off.
Thats the route im taking very soon.
My old factory original v codes are back bending lol.

I here you Chris, but the back bending is why they ride so rough. The freeways around here you have to remember what lanes are best they are so rough. This is the way it was when the truck was new also. I'm not sure what way I will go yet but maybe W code? I'll have to price them out. Any way let us know when you change them out, I'll do the same.

If I added shackles to the front, are they a direct bolt on or does some modification have to be done to install them?

They are direct replacements for the factory hangers.
Many guys actually just build them at home.
