96 ranger OBD2 code question
I have a 96 ranger 3.0. Basically has been a great and flawless truck. The engine light for a while has been on so during the last service I got out my trusty OBD2 code reader and attempted to fix the issue. The code recieved was PO1443, according to all books I have read on fords and or rangers this code refers to a evaproative emmission control valve problem, or in laymans terms according to the manual, the fuel tank vapor recovery system. According to all the info I have there are only 3 items in this circuit. the control valve, the vapor cannister and the sensor that sends such codes to the comp. The fact that a code is being sent tends to lead one to think it would not be the sensor. After talking with a tech, also a close friend at the local ford dealer, he stated that usually a leaking cannister casues this. To make a long story short I have replaced both the cannister and the valve, however still the light comes on...the truck runs just fine but that light is getting old....has anyone here expereienced this problem and if so what did it take to get yours fixed..thanks for any input.

If you do a search in the Ranger Forum using "1443" as your keyword you will find several threads where that code is discussed.
Good luck!
I have a 97 ford ranger V6 4.0 and i have the same code. i put a scan tool on it and it came back as manufacturer auxiliary emission controls. i wasn't real sure what that was so i checked it on alldata and it said it was my evap canister. so my recommendation to you is check your vacuum lines for leaks and cracks. also check the connection on your evap canister. i hope this helps.
