I just took my truck into Ford for some work and I made sure I returned the truck to stock. Ford had the truck for a couple of days and then called me and said they saw a code that said there was a chip previously installed? Whats up? I thought that after returning the truck to stock there was no way to detect the tuner. Do I have to also run diagnostic or something? The only thing I can think of is to erase all codes in diagnostic but no one ever mentioned having to do that. I was under the impression all I had to do was return the truck to stock. Please help!!!!!
P.S. Ford did fix the problem under warranty, but I first got an earful from the service tech about how in the future any problems would not be covered.
I had a similar experience with one dealer - he swore blind that there was a chip in the truck, so I took it to another dealer, after re removing the programming, and asked if it had a chip.....
The new dealer said that there was not a chip, and nothing showed that there ever was one, so I had them put that on the trucks's record sheet. They then told me that often a dealer will try to get out of having to perform warranty work on a truck they did not sell, and will claim a violation so releasing them from the obligation.
The fact that the other dealer put on record that there was no chip ensured that my '02 would keep it's warranty. This was effective as it has had warranty work 5 times since.
(the truck's unreliability has put me off ever buying a new Ford again. I will stick with my '96, that had one warranted repair in the entire period.

You have to return the truck to stock tuning and then use the code reader function to remove the codes it leaves behind.
