Hey guys and gals,
I am having this same issue with the Manure type smell, and recent results from any of you taking this issue to the ford dealer? any fixes?
I am asking this so that i have some type of Repair in mind before i take it to the dealership because i have had nothing but bad luck with my dealership and i do not trust that the mechanics have our best interest in mind. Reason being is i have 32,000 on my truck two years ago i took it in for knocking noise and my engine and trans mission just was not running like it should, The ford dealer could not find anything wrong so i left, 3 month after that visit i took it back in for same issue Knocking noise thought that my engine was faulty? they came back saying oh this is normal noise they all do it, I was very very Mad and had a few words for them (knocking in an engine is not normal)
Well i was searching service bulletins and found a few that my truck was experiencing. one being a software update they took it in checked and found that it needed a software update after they did this update all was good but it took me bringing in 3 service bulletins and 32,000 miles of me driving a truck that i knew had issues before they found the problem actually it was me that found the problem not the mechanics that are suppose to be certified. im still mad over this whole situation well anyway thats why i am checking to see if anyone has had there truck in to the dealership and had the issue fixed???
I've had the vent smell for a while now too, and I have described it as a band aid smell too. My wife's '14 Fusion has a slightly different smell as well. I descided to try a product from our detail supplier that we use at work that is a type of dissinfectant release that is left in the vehicle for a 24 hour period. It's safe and non toxic to breath so I may as well try it.
I read some reviews one said they would use two cans next time and that it did help.
I also read that people said that it is water buildup at the evaporator. Most of the time water drains out but there are times when it does not (possibly due to a plugged drain) and it begins to mold etc. I read that Ford actually has a cleaning system.
I have not read anywhere as of yet a write up or a fix for the manure type smell. I am just trying to help out if I can.

Welcome to the forum, Scott! Keep in mind that you can have your truck serviced at any Ford Dealership; if you need help finding some options near you, just enter your ZIP code here: Ford Dealers | Locate a Ford Dealer Near You | Ford.com If you decide to proceed with getting the odor diagnosed at a different dealer, let me know and I'll loop in your regional customer service manager.
They tried some spray crap that didn't work first, then replaced evap, so far ok but would always start around march here in Pennsylvania with the smell. I really don't ever see alot of water coming from that drain on the firewall for the a/c, it's almost impossible to get at with the 5.0. I see vehicles gushing water out with the a/c on, not mine.

That would be like mine...it always seems to run water even right after I start it and the AC is on. I have yet to have the smelly vent (knock on wood)
Today water is gushing out it actually is running down near the cross member near the transmission. Maybe I did loosen something up, never seen it drain like that since new.

Hey guys; keep in mind the amount of water coming out is a direct function of two factors. First and foremost is the fresh or recirculate/max ac setting. There will be a constant flow of water dripping on the ground on fresh air, do to the steady supply of hot humid air from the outdoors. On recirculate, once the cabin air dries out, there is little humidity left to create water. The second factor is the dew point. In all areas of the south and most areas in the east, in the summer, the dew point is in the 60's and 70's. That provides enough moisture to make lots of water on fresh air. Out west where the dew point is low (40's or below); no water will be created on any setting; there's none to be had! I hope this helps predict when you should be seeing water. Its hard to make a bunch of water unless the ac is on fresh air and the dew point is above 65. If the dew point is above 70, on fresh air the water will come out by the bucket full!
Hi folks, just bought a 2016 F250 Super Duty 6.2 Gas. Coming from a 2004 (h3vy 2500.
Right now at 750 miles I am noticing a strange smell (melting plastic/ hot circuit board?) as soon as I start the truck. It goes away after a few minutes. I though maybe I was getting used to the smell on my short drive to work. Today at the Post office I left the truck run and did not notice the smell when I got back in. I have had the truck since 12/07/15 and the smell just started on 01/06/15 in the afternoon when I left for home from work. I was at the bus stop to pick up my 6 YO Granddaughter. After starting it, she even said Pop whats that smell?
I called the dealer this morning and said I was not sure if it has to sit for a long period of time before it comes back. I said hold on let me check while I start it after sitting for 10-15 minutes. Yep still there as soon as I start it. It seems to fade quickly.
After reading this thread I was wondering if anyone found the cause. I have an appointment at dealer next week. It seems it's going to be a big waste of my time.
Another strange thing is people here mention a manure smell. I had a loaner new Ford Focus a few weeks back and asked if the guy that had it before me was a farmer as it smelled like manure. They just said they will have it cleaned and laughed. Seems as if it is a problem it should be addressed.
