Funny, I don't have this issue with my truck but just today I turned on the defroster as its raining here in my wifes Q5 and got the same smell. Subscribing for a possible reason...
Another one with the smell.. started around 135,000km still with me at 139,000km. Truck parks in my attached garage every night. No smell until startup and vents are blowing. Lasts only for the first few minutes, yes it's embarassing!
Seems some dealers are changing evaps & plenums, I've still yet to get any word from ford.
My offer to assist still stands, crazyrwe. To proceed, PM me your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership; I'll do the rest.

I have the issue with my 08' Ranger. Every now-and-again, the cab will have an egg smell, but only for a couple of minutes and when the vehicle is warmed-up. Also, I noticed last week that there was a different odd smell -- this time, a stale cigarette type smell or dirty sock under the seat. It lasted briefly, wasn't overwhelming (but noticeable), and AC and, I believe, cruise control were both on at the time. Other that that, nothing out of the ordinary, and truck runs fine.
have the same issue with my 2013 started around 15000K and I took it to the dealer they told they had never heard of this issue and could not smell anything (of course because I brought the truck that morning) it has to sit a while before smell comes back!!, GLAD to see i'm not the only one,, I will chalenge them again and leave the truck there over night.

Let us know what the verdict is from your dealer, mermic. I'll check in to see when you have any news.
Suddenly, I seem to remember a thread in a Ranger forum about this same issue and I think it was related to the design of the cowl allowing moisture to build or something.
My update with my 08' Ranger. I knew prior to yesterday that my brake pads (based on my last tire rotation) had 'some life left'. I haven't had any issues braking until last week when a slight pulsating began. Yesterday, after a 45 min. highway drive, I exited the freeway and was stopped at the light. Clearly, there was a burning smell. Now, I question my random vent smells because each rare time they occurred I believe I was accelerating after braking. Also, yesterday after the Ranger sat, I drove a short distance and there was a new smell - a heavy fuel smell that went away after a couple min.
it's not a mold smell, synthetic manure/farm smell is the best description, the dealer told me the checked for mold or mildew but found nothing. Mine is a 5.0l and the 2011 5.0l we have at work has similar smell as well. (my truck has never been near a farm)
I got one more to add.
2012 F150 FX4 CC.
Smells like a barnyard on start up with HVAC unit blowing. I thought it was just my truck. Your right it is embarrassing when somebody climbs into the truck with you. I jut tell people my truck doesn't bathe.
I'm sending a PM to the Ford rep on this thread.
On a side note anybody having a vacuum assist pump issue. Sounds like a growling come out from under the driver side fender on startup.
Going to the dealership next Thursday for the pump will add smell to the list.
I can not PM yet, 10 days or 5 posts, but anyways, I stopped in to see my ford tech advisor this morning and he actually smelled it, but has no clue where it could come from, seems to be no service bulletin issued for this. Does Ford have any idea on where this could come from so that I could point them in the right direction.
