Ok so I love my auto awning its a huge improvement to running outside in the middle of the night trying to close my old awning before the storm rips the whole thing off So that said cleaning it really sucks so much that ive taken a whole Ehh attitude twords it. Does anyone know a better way then standing under it with chlorine spray of something of the sort soaking you while you brush the crap off on to you? I try my best to keep out of the way but its tall and I really hate overhead work wost kind in my opinion.
Im not really sure of the answer we have mostly mold spots yeah looks kind of nasty but doesn't bother me to much LOL hopefully Steve will through in an answer if its really necessary or a good trick to do it easier.
Yeah, chlorine is a lot of fun overhead. As to the life of the awning, in my experience dirt is not an issue. We do clean our occasionally with the emphasis on occasionally and use a brush with a very long extension handle so we do not have to stand right under it. We have tried different brands of awning cleaning, but so far the magic has eluded us.
I just got turned on to a product, that will clean almost every part of your TT, including the awning. And you can buy it at a dollar store! It is called LA's Totally Awsome All Purpose Cleaner.
I was at a RV Show over the winter, and one of the vendors told me about it. She said they use it to clean the entire RV. And it is cheap, so I decided to give it a try. She said you can buy it at one of the dollar store chains. However, I searched for it a 2 chains with no luck. So I bought a 32 oz. spray bottle on eBay for $5.95. And it works!
I used it primarily for cleaning my awning. It got it clean. I did dilute it with water, as it says to on the bottle(4 parts water/1 part cleaner), especially for the awning. I did not have any mildew or mold spots on the awning. So I cannot speak to how well it cuts through that. It also got the black streaks out on the sides of my TT as well.
I would not use it on the rubber roofs or any roof you may have. I believe it has citrus in it. And I believe that is a big No No for rubber roofs especially.
So instead of buying awning cleaners, black streak remover, car wash soap, ect, I just use this stuff. For 6 bucks you cannot go wrong!
I will leave a link for the eBay Page. Or just try your local dollar store. I think the lady said they sell the 12oz bottles at the store.
Huh ill have to look into that i think we have a dollar store near by thanks for the tip now if i could just figure out an easy way to remove the awning and lay it flat in my driveway boy id be set!
Ok so since were talking cleaning how often do you guys or do you hand wax your RV? Been trying to get my wife to do it but so far no luck hahaha.
On my previous TT I had to clean my awning about 3 times a season because it was white! And Depending on if I had tree sap on it, I would clean it maybe one more time. It was a manual awning, which are a lot easier to clean IMO. I would just remove the arms from the bottom and lay them under the TT so the awning would rest flat against the side. At least you can give the top of the awning a good scrubbing with it against the TT.
My new TT I have only owned since September. This one is black, so stains will not show too much. However, I usually clean it when I first open it to get the mildew off. I want to buy the tube you install over the closed awning to keep water out and protect it. Or I will just make my own out of PVC.

Too funny! My wife just bought some of that as the neighbor told her it was a good spot treater for the laundry. Gonna have to get some for the trailer now too, it seems. We got it at Dollar Tree by the way.

Thank you! For the life of me I could not remember the dollar store chain that carried it. Seems my memory is not what it used to be when I was a young man! Is that supposed to happen? LOL!
I feel like a snake oil salesman for mentioning this product. Guaranteed to clean you RV to your teeth!
I was actually surprised it worked as well as it did.
I use simple green for my awning. Couple gallons of water with simple green and brush on. Roll up awning, let it sit for 15 minutes, unroll, light brushing and spray off. Works great for me.
