grill surround replacement

grill surround replacement

whats the easiest way to access bolts to remove grill shell ? or , how do you do it ?

No tricks... remove the grill inserts and a shot of PB Blaster (or equivalent) the day before. Then undo the bolts.

Why the question? It's rather a simple task to generate a question about how to do it....

79 f150. remove grill inserts ? i dont see how to get to the bolts. the ones on each side by the headlights. three on each side . the bolt heads are on the backside of the grill.

Remove the plastic fender wells,come in under the fender with a long exstetion and socket.

1/2-inch combo wrench and 1/2-inch socket on a ratchet...

On top of this question, I've noticed the round light grills (pre-79) and the surrounding area look like they would bolt right up to a 79 as a direct replacement. I like the rounded look a bit better and I need to replace anyways. Just direct swap?

Not quite direct because of different headlight buckets which, IIRC, mount in slightly different locations.

Otherwise, very low on the difficulty meter... about a 2 out 10.

Your arm will fit back there. Take the rubber shields off of the top of the grill.

Right on. So finding a 77 to strip, just grab all dat up in there eh.

Round headlight parts for 1978 are not the same as 1977, except for the headlight retaining ring and the seal beam.
