I have a 97 Ranger with a 4 cyl engine with the 8 spark plugs from hell. How do I get the drivers side plugs out without removing everything around them. The one closest the firewall is imposssibe to get at!
I've never seen under the hood of a truck like yours, but on some trucks, like 2 of mine, some of the spark plugs are easiest to get at through the wheel well.
i used to have a 93 ranger and i used a "weeble wobble" socket extension and depending on the plug i used every extension i could find. on the drivers side i had to go inbetween the intake runners i used a flashlight to see where the socket had to go. be careful and make sure you are ON the plug before you do anything.

dont get me wrong but how can u have 8 plugs on a V4 lol is funny but to replace the plugs on a explorer is so easy were is the airconditioner take the air intake out the hole big air intake then is way easy u know that think with the maf sensors and airtemperature sensor air filter take them all out and give u easy access to the sparks

Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not a mechanic, and never owned a 4 cyl vehicle), but there are two plugs per cylinder, the extra plug ensuring that all the fuel is burned, improving combustion?
I have a 93 explorer, and the first time I changed the plugs it took me several hours. The plug closest to the firewall on the passenger side alone took me 2 hours- I finally had to use several extensions and a universal going through the passenger side wheel well.
I just changed the plugs and wires last weekend, and the job took only about 45 minutes. I bought a 5/8" SPARK PLUG SOCKET at Sears (Craftsman). This was the key. It has a hex end over which you can fit a 3/4" box wrench. The rear plugs are also angled slightly toward the firewall. Using the socket and box wrench, I was able to remove the plug in about 5 minutes. Hope this helps.
t is possible i had a 93 ranger wth 8 plugs, its a 2.3L mostl likely. ford did t for better gas mileage, one set fires on ntaake stroke and one set fires on exaust stroke, to burn ALL unused fuel. its trick replacing the plugs, you will have to loosen or remove the alternator to do it, as for the last one pass side by firewall, go through the area above the tre, just like on an explorer.
Actually, there is a much easier way to R & R the spark plugs on an Explorer. If you lift and remove the flexible flap inside the wheelwell by popping off the plastic rivets(carefully) you will have all the room in the world to access the plugs over the top of the wheels. It may also work on the Ranger.
