So now, my Ex has decided to get flakey with the blinkers. The hazards function just fine, but when I operate the left or right turn signal, I get either a brief, spastic clicking or just one click and then nadda. sometimes, the light will stay on with no flashing (not too often), most times, a flash or two, then...darkness. When the Ex is not turned on, with the ignition in position 2, where the blinkers should be functioning, I get nothing- not even the clicking of the relays. I have changed out the flasher relay. I even put in a genuine ford one just to rule that out. no dice. I then inspected the 20 amp fuse, and that was fine. I checked the lightbulbs. they were fine, too! I also have all my lights, including brake lights and parking lights. Finally, I took a look at the multi function switch and played around with the connection trying to see if it might be a wire issue. I didn't see any frayed or exposed wires and I moved the steering column up and down all the while fiddling with the switch. I havent removed the switch yet. that will be for tomorrow. Darkness has fallen, now, and I am wondering if I should get a new switch, should I proceed to take the present one out, and try to repair it, or could my problem lay elsewhere? I don't know...If anyone wants to throw in on this, please do. I'll let y'all know what I find.
Today, I was able to pull the Multifunction switch off the steering column. Not too complicated of a task. I inspected the thing...looked fine. I played with the thing... felt like it worked fine. I reattached the plugs to the emergancy flasher and the stalk, and reconnected the battery. I energized the system and actuated the turn signal. Nothing...but when I tweaked the lever on the MFS, I could hear the flasher relay, under the center console start clicking to my movement, but nothing consistent...at one time, I was able to get it to click rapidly for about a second or so, before relieving pressure. I am almost certain that the MFS is the culprit. I inspected the wiring around the steering column, and could see no breaks in them. I had checked the power going to the flasher relay and I know I am getting power to them. Big question, now is wondering if there is anything else in turn signal system that I may have missed. I saw the recall for the MFS and called the dealer. They ran the VIN and said this item was taken cared of a few years ago (definitely before I purchased it). could it be that I have a second failure of the switch??? has anyone heard of this before? Am I missing something? I'll have to wait to buy the replacement switch. but will let you all know when I do and what happens.
