Ok I bought a new pickup last night (1995 psd eclb 4x4 auto) and after I got done pulling it with my other psd I now have a major oil leak, oil cooler maybe?
I bought the 95 for $500 and the guy says the tranny is out and that was the way he bought it. I can put it in gear and it will barley crawl forward. Is it possible just the torque convert is out, bad filter, or maybe pump? Idk anything about automatic transmissions this is the first one I've ever bought because I couldn't pass it up for the price.
Third question. On this pickup the check engine light comes on and off. And when the light is on it runs like crap and as soon as it turns of it runs fine. I was thinkin maybe CPS idk.
When the oil cooler needed rebuilding on mine, it leaked when the oil was cold, and sealed up when the engine warmed up. I have had the plugs in the oil gallies in the head leak, new o ring solved that.
I know nothing about auto trannys, so no help there.
When the engine runs like crap, what does it do? Miss? If so it could be valve cover gasket, and related harness.
If you are getting a check engine light, there is a code stored, get it read to see what the PCM is seeing.
Which side is the oil leak? High, low, forward, aft?
Tranny could be anything. Might start with a fluid/filter change, if you're fixin' on keeping the tranny. You sound like the hand-shaker type; ZF5 swap is always on the menu.
CE light - get the code(s). If you're fixin' on keeping the truck, now you have two, it's worth an investment in AutoEnginuity or a Snap-On MT2500. You might even find a code, or several, for the tranny.
I got a 93 idi eclb 4x4 with the zf5 in it that I bought running for $220 and if I can't figure out the automatic in the next hour I'm just gunna swap them out. Already went by napa and picked up a pilot bearing.
I know guys that pick up almost running trucks for 1200 and sell them for 6 at least once a month.
Buy it and replace a map sensor or something and it runs fine.
Lame? It's effing cool, put one back on the road and make some jangle. Lame on the seller, maybe. You just don't see that up here. People keep 'em running until the @^&*#%&! rust eats them up.

Could be, but more likely burnt valve cover connections, inside and out.
Ok so the check engine light goes off and runs way better after it is warmed up.
Did the zf5 swap over the weekend and idk if it was like this when I bought it but I have no break or turn signals. When I turn my turn signals on the arrows on the dash don't even show and I can't hear it clicking. Maybe I forgot to connect something when I swapped the steering wheel.
