Potential truck

I've been looking at a 99 F250 4x4, lariat, loaded, 7.3 with 270xxx on it.

Aside from typical used car issues, what should I be looking for diesel specific that's bad news? Anything common or typical to watch for?

There's a thread for the potential/new buyers, I'd advise reading it. I got lucky with mine so I joined after purchase, ask your questions here and be amazed with the help you receive !

I just learned that from a friend here at work actually. Should I run away if it's an early 99, or just know that it's not a late 99?

Mine's an early, didn't know the difference when I bought it but for the price vs what others were going for I would do it again.

if I found a early 99 just like mine, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it, hopefully the gang will read this after dinner but mine is 6/99 and is the "late 99 or 99.5" the door sticker will tell you all you need, unless it's not there

You don't need to run away if most everything else checks out. There are plenty of guys on here that have early '99's that they are very fond of. There is a conversion to make it into a late that costs around $1500 or so, so factor that in, if it's important.
