Removing anodizing

I burnt a grill up , so to speak , using a chemical remover in the past . I tried oven cleaner with no great effect. Other than taking it to be tanked ,is there another way you guys are doing it without spending 8 hrs. a day for 2 months to wet sand it ?

Tanking is the best way to get it done. Sanding can lead to thin spots and sore everything. Oven cleaner will only work on small spots and leaves discoloring.
You'll come out ahead to have it tank stripped and re-anodized at the same time.

Get it tanked. The cost won't be too much.

I will look for another place to tank it. I dont like the company I have used before . I won't have it reanodized but I will polish it then use some of Eastwood's clear over it. I was hoping there was another way.

You could buy a huge amount of oven cleaner and do a DIY tank. The lye in oven cleaner eats at the aluminum.

I made my own "tank" Made a box from 2x6s and laid 6mil plastic in it as a liner. Filled with HOT water then put a WHOLE box of powder draino in. Put the grill in it and let is sol for 5 min and pulled out to check. Used some 400 grill sand paper to scrub the hard spots. IIRC it took about 30 min total

I used Easy-Off oven cleaner, the stuff with the yellow cap. Worked great only needed 2 applications in some difficult spots.

Why are you so against properly bathing it at an anodizing shop? By the time you try all these different methods you'll be paying more.

I am not, but the shop that is close to me, is not , to put it nicely , on my Christmas list. They have lost and ruined parts of mine in the past . I don't like them nor trust them.
So if I can do it myself and get the results I want , I will .
