I'm having some problem with employee(s) making copy of my truck keys. I've replaced the ig. cylinder but that doesn't help. Apparently when on the road the driver can stop in any key shop and have one made. I'm looking for a way to stop this but have come up empty in my searches. Has any one run into this problem?
Google "do not duplicate key law" and learn that stamping your keys with that is pretty much worthless.
Why are they making duplicates? Is there any legit reason?
How much of a stink do you want to make?
You can put a policy in writing and have them sign and keep a copy, stating that duplicating or have a duplicate key is against policy and can/will result in termination. You have to create a paper trail and be reasonable about it.
You should consult an HR or employment lawyer if you are not comfortable doing the above.
After that, then you have to make a couple high profile examples out of folks who won't comply.
Generally, people who violate one rule or request are not shy about violating another. They guy who repeatedly makes dupes is probably also cheating on hours or speeding or giving rides to hookers.
No simple solution. However, unemployment is high, and those who don't play by the rules must be made to feel that their employment security is low.
jmo, no part of this is real legal advice, ymmv, prices higher in Alaska and Hawaii.
You always arrive before all employees correct?
If so you could hide extra switch that shuts off the Electric Fuel pump Or the Ignition, OR Both.
But this requires you or someone you REALLY trust to stay late or arrive early.

Both your ideas are good but not fool proof. I was thinking about a replacement ig. switch and that the key could not be copied at a local key shop. The only way to make a copy is to go back to the vendor.
I would like to find a vendor who can provide this service.
