Just acquired a new rig yesterday. It is a 2006 F-250 Super Duty King Ranch FX4 with a gas V-10 engine. I'm looking to replace the existing OEM exhaust system with a nice new, deep, loud, growling system. I've been looking at FlowMaster and MagnaFlow, but cannot decide between the two. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'll also be adding a cold-air intake, electric fans, and under-drive pulleys to assist with the power and mileage a little. Thanx.
All you really need to do is cut out the stock muffler and replace it with what ever you like. The tailpipe is 3" mandrel already. That is what I did on my 05. Swapped in a Dynomax Super Turbo. #17792. I kept the stock air box but replaced the filter with a cleanable style. A chip would probably be you best bet.
So, do you think there's any way possible to get this V10 to sound like my V8 does on my `02 F-150 SuperCrew? That thing growls so low it's just incredible...you can even feel the rumble when standing behind the truck.
The V10 has oddball firing order and just doesn't play well to get the V8 sound.
There are many YouTube videos out there to listen to which mostly show how different the V10 sounds especially at high revs. Unfortunately most go from full idle to WOT with no load, which is not the best indication of what it sounds like going down the road.
Prior to 2005 the 2V engines like my '02 V10 had a different exhaust set up, so I'm not sure how accurate videos of all the 2V exhausts compare to what a 3v would sound like with the same system.
Crawl under your truck and look closely at the existing exhaust, which was improved greatly in 2005, which in part explains why my '05 is rated at 50hp more than my '02 was.
At this point I am leaning toward just replacing the stock muffler with a Dynomax VT and leaving the rest in place since I miss the sound I had with dual glasspacks on my '86 Bronco with a Crower cam yet prefer not to spend more $$
Ford really did a good job on the 05 and up exhaust. Header style manifolds, dual cats, 3" tailpipe. I chose the 17792 muffler because it has 3" internal tubes and a rather large case. Dynomax also uses this muffler for their Cat-back kit for the 05 V10 trucks.

The VT has been great, it has got ever so slightly louder at 3/4-full throttle but in a good way yet normal driving is nice and quiet, romp on it and it has this unique tone around 4000rpm almost a maserati type tone. Cruising between 60 and 85 is almost like stock but just a little nice sound but no DRONE what so ever.
