Parking brake cable removal???

This may be a dumb question, I've looked all over the forums but haven't found this asked before, but how on earth do you remove the parking brake cable from the frame on a '72 F100? I've got the frame all broken down and ready to be cleaned up and painted, but just can't figure out how to remove the cable from the crossmember. On the outside it looks like some kind of a nut, but when I try to turn it, nothing happens, and on the inside (if I squint and look through the few openings that are available) I see some kind of something that maybe spreads to hold it in, and maybe if I squeezed that it would come out? I'm not sure, if anyone knows how to do this, please let me know.

Parking brake cable removal???

There is a clip that holds the back side. The outside is square with a U shaped cutout that slides over the brake cable fitting, the whole clip is curved to provide pressure to hold the fitting against the frame. Find the square side that is bent out a little and pry it out with a screwdriver.
