Ok so my highboy has a 78 d44 HP front axle with the dual piston calipers. I come outside today to see that my pass front tire has oil drips on it...
The axle tube end is leaking on the bottom right behind the knuckle... I also noticed the knuckles both can be moved horizontally like 1/4-3/8 of an inch. Is that normal? And im trying to figure out why it just randomly started leaking (and it seems like its leaked a lot) because I haven't used the 4x4 almost ever.... I currently don't even have a front driveshaft on the truck.lol
I assume there is a seal there and its a pain to get to.. Anyone have a suggested diagram or link to the best descriptive way to take the pass side apart and fix the leak?
If your knuckles move in any direction than left and right for turning purposes, I'd assume that the ball joints need replaced. You may have a bad axle seal as well causing your leak but that's just my guess.
