EGR cleaning

When you take the EGR off do you need to install a new gasket/oring or if the original looks good can you resuse?

It's only like $10 for the gasket/o-ring kit...makes sense just to put new ones on...unless of course you're cleaning it all the time.
I just did mine for the first time since I've owned it (23k later-now 178k) and although they weren't pitted or broken I saw it as peace of mind.

Is there a Ford number for them or (hate to ask) is there generic?

I agree having your stuff together and getting the kit ahead of time is "best practice" but it's pretty easy to tell if they are damaged. I've had mine out a couple of times and it still has the Orings that came on it with no issues.

Put a little fresh engine oil on the O-rings so they don't snag on the way back in.

Careful that could start a big debate... But in my opinion once you're running a tuner and you have an EGR cooler delete kit... There's not much use for the EGR valve. Might as well take it out one less thing to service and have possibly fail.

Nope. I never removed my EGR valve before I deleted the cooler.

What is there to service or fail with the cooler deleted? Leave it alone.

It's an electronic component if it shorts out its going to send a signal to the computer that there something wrong. Now if you're running a tuner you and can turn it off and there's no need to have the valve in the system at all.

But of course that's only my opinion...

And since I blocked it off with a cool sinister diesel blue cap... I think it just looks awesome

Removing the valve is a bad idea. For one it is unnecessary with the cooler deleted.

More importantly the cooling fan operation is affected by valve removal.

You guys are speed reading again . He asked about when the EGR is turned off with a tune and didn't say anything about a cooler delete.

I've read under those conditions a EGR valve can "blow" open under certain (high boost or high back pressure) conditions. If I were in his shoes I'd have to pull it just to check and see if it did have any soot on it and where. I suspect the back side may have some and maybe the front side is clean?

I guess I should of stated that Im only running a tune that turns off the EGR valve. I DO NOT have a EGR delete on the truck.

So if its turned off then I have no need to pull & clean EGR.

If the valve is turned off with a tune it should stay closed.
The way they turn it off in most cases is by zeroing out the
EGR control tables. The PCM still looks and tests the valve.

Some of this is dependent on what strategy you have also.
Some of the early ones don't care and some do. California
CARB strategy I think are the ones that look.

I have my valve tuned to off and have checked it and it seems to stay
cleaner a lot longer because it not opening. The reason I pull it is to
check for wet. Been dry for the most part.
