mirrors

i have a 99 expy with heated mirrors (no signals)and the other day someone was nice enough to take my drivers side mirror just the glass by cutting the heating wires , i would like to know if there is anyway to just replace the glass and hook up the wires again or like my ford dealer told me to replace the entire mirror assembly for the price of $200 , thanks in advance , this site is great and has saved me a small fortune already

You can get a brand new heated mirror glass from fordpartsonline.com for about $ 30.00. If the thieves didn't "properly remove" your glass, you will probably also need to replace the jack screws and drive pins in the housing as well. Your dealer will probably just scratch his head if you ask for these (they really just want to sell you the whole mirror), so contact the technical support people at kwmuth.com (the mirror manufacturer) and they will put you in touch with the people who make them. They also have complete instructions on-line for replacing the glass, which is a lot easier than installing a whole new mirror. As far as the wiring goes, it sounds like you'll have to crimp new sta-kons to the ends or just solder them to the terminals on the back of the new mirror glass. I went through all of this when I replaced the standard mirror glass with heated glass on my '98. Piece of cake.
