Dog

2001 F-350 LB CC 4x4
5.4 Auto
75,000 miles

My leg gets tired pushing on the gas pedal to get this thing to stay at the speed limit.
It goes good on the flat and is great stop and going around town.

The engine runs good and has lots of oil pressure.

Changed the fuel filter.

Is it because Im used to my diesels power or are these 5.4 dogs?
I don't know how anyone could tow anything with one?

Anyone got any ideas how I can get more out of this thing?

Ive got 2 diesels a 6.4 and a 7.3.
Thanks for the un helpful answers , if these 5.4 are all like this one I cant believe there would be so many on the road.
So im looking for ideas on improving it or fixing it and that's the best you can come up with?

If you look at my sig I have done pretty much everything I can to my 5.4 and the only thing that really woke it up was Gears just as I said in my first post, I don't have a problem with my 5,4 output and actually like it a lot. You drive diesel all day long it sounds like so getting in a 5,4 truck is gonna seam slow hence the buy the diesel comment , I don't think you are gonna be happy with the 5.4 no matter what you do..

After driving a 6.7 I can say the same thing about 7.3 trucks.

The only thing you can do like others said is gears!

Honestly I think the 5.4 should have come standard with a minimum of 4:30 and people would be a lot happier with them..

I have 3.73's in my 5.4 and it pulls just fine. I wont win any races, but I didnt get the truck to win races, I got it to WORK, and it does it well.

Why are you wasting your time with that dog....you should sell it to me real cheap and I will mate it with my DOG 2005 f-250 lariet CC 4X4 5.4 , and maybe the off spring would be more puppy...I mean peppy

other than that...try decarbing the intake and combusting system, make sure you are running the intended oil weight, eval your rim size (18's don't toruqe as well as 16's), consider the gearing advice, at 75K plugs and coils should be fine...but make sure you are running on all 8 cylinders.

Thank you , Ive got stock tires and rims on it . 16"
Oil has been changed.
Decarbing the intake means what?

Its a good truck on the flat or going downhill , but the least little climb and it goes slower and slower, it will drag right down to 30 mph if you don't hold your foot to the floor at all times.
And that's basicly empty

I am certainly not an expert, but I think something is wrong as I've never had my pedal to the floor even when towing +/- 10,000 lbs

Something is definitely wrong, Ive never had to floor it to get over a hill empty, much less weighted down. It might downshift once and on a rare occasion twice if its a really steep, long hill. You might want to check and make sure your cats arent clogged as well.

Yep, ya'll got something wrong besides inherent lack of HP and torque. We drove our 5.4 for almost a year with the 3.73's before re-gearing to 4.30's. We never had to touch the throttle while empty or towing heavy (8500 lb. 5ver) to summit a hill with the 3.73's. It'd just shift down and pick up rpm to the point that it was in it's maximum torque curve and top the hill.

I'd have it looked at, and driven, by a competent technician. I wouldn't be surprised if there is not much wrong, but there is definitely something amiss.

I've been driving a 5.4L with 3.73 gears for over 7 years. My leg isn't tired.

Something is wrong with your truck.
