I got my new android and vgate dongle last night. Started messing with it today and got everything adjusted per Tuglys instructions. Only have one issue is that the engine coolant temp reads minus 40 all of the time. Must have something to adjust in the PID settings on it. Anyone have an idea of what they should be?
Can you post a link to the Dongle you are using, there are a least two of the ELM327 units. I want to make sure I get the one that actually works. Thanks, Nick

Yeah... the ECT wasn't in my list, for the reason mentioned above. There is no ECT sensor on the OBDII network, which is just fine... the engine temp is what really matters and we're all used to having ECT as the only indicator of engine temp. If you really think about it, EOT is better than ECT - plus ECT is usually about 20 degrees cooler than EOT (confirmed with laser thermometer readings).
Caveat with the cheap ones: I have yet to read about one particular unit that works for everybody's situation. It could be quality control on the unit itself. "Poor quality control on a Chinese clone of an American product? Say it ain't so." It could be a combination of the vehicle, the unit you're using (laptop, smart phone, tablet, etc...), and all the software/apps/settings on said unit. I think all the variables combined make the cheap units too fickle to say "This is the one cheap unit that works for all situations."
I have the OBDLink MX Bluetooth, and I will be buying the OBDLink MX WiFi when it's available (currently scheduled for August). It's more expensive, but it's legit... and I've used it on completely different combinations reliably (different computer systems, software, and vehicles).

No wounder I am confused. Maybe I should be asking, what not to use or avoid with the Android tablet?
Hey Rich, I was looking at the OBDLink MX on Scantool.net. It looks like you have to buy a ford enhanced addon for the XL version, Did you have to buy anything extra for the MX? I'm Thinking about trying it out but may wait for the WIFI version. Thanks
Nothing extra to buy if you plan on using your tablet. OBDWIZ comes with the adapter, but that's for PC... and XL is for a PC as well. AE is exclusive to their OBDII adaptor, so I have the wired unit for AE on my carputer PC, and the Android goes with the Bluetooth unit.
Thanks Rich, I haven't got a tablet but was planning on getting one or maybe one of those Microsoft touch things. I really like my Infinity but it's a pain switching it between trucks so I'm looking for something for extra gauges while I'm driving.
Thanks
Im going to ask a stupid question here. But I have been looking at this, and looking at the app it shows $4.95. Now here comes the stupid part because I have never downloaded a paid app. Is this a one time 4.95 and your done, or this a monthly fee?
