Hey guys i just got a free amc 6 cylnder 300 that is running and was wonder if any one has mounted one of these and who makes a mount kit or make your own?
I dont have it yet, will have it in a couple weeks ,it might be ford 300 cause its coming out of a bronco,I got it on a trade so i have not seen it yet
Hope it works out for you. I got a free cat from work once. She wandered into the shop with a respiratory infection so I took her to the vet for a check up, shots, and had her spayed. My free cat ended up costing me about $600. after it was all said and done. I hope your free engine doesn't end up like my free cat.

Hey, free engines are great and they made lots of those engines for AMC and Jeep vehicles. You will probably want to identify the year, etc. Here is a link to the codes: http://street2mud.com/webfiles/AMC%20Engine%20codes.pdf
I have some 1 bbl and 2 bbl carbs in the top of my barn if you need them.
That engine has lots of bottom end torque as long as you don't over-carburate it. But is not a high winding engine in stock configuration. It is also very reliable . . . except when full of water. The good news is that there are lots race parts available at good prices from various Race Jeep sources. They may have some mount kits but it shouldn't be too hard to fabricate something to fit. Pumping 300 HP out of them is not a problem.
Early T18 transmissions (depending on application, Jeep for one) were close ratio=taller first gear. Good news for street usage, unless you wanted a granny gear. I think the 258 came out the first year Jeep went to the granny gear T18, however.
