87 2.9 lifter replacement

Just wanted to know if anybody has had any experience replacing the valve lifters in the 2.9. Do you really have to pull the heads to get them out? Got a couple noisy ones, bleeding off preload no matter how well the lash is adjusted. Thanks in advance!

87 2.9 lifter replacement

With the 2.8, the heads need to be pulled to get the lifters out - they hang out over the valley too far. The 2.9 is probably the same way.

im currently tearing down a 2.9 for overhaul, and yes the heads have to be pulled to get the lifters out
