Muffler bolt removal manifold - no access

How are you supposed to remove the muffler bolts on the passenger side of the truck? There is no access for an impact wrench? I was thinking the only way to get at the bolts is to cut off the muffler about 5 inches from the manifold. Bolts are too rusted to get them off with a wrench.

I can get the bolt on the left off with an impact wrench, the one on the right
side is the one I'm having trouble with. To make matters worse the idiots who replaced my muffler 13 years ago used a 3/8 inch bolt (right side) instead of the 10 mm bolt they should of used.

I have a 92 F150 XLT with a 302 cu inch engine.

Any help?

When I pulled off mine, I used an impact but ran into the same problem on the same bolts. I used a deep socket, connected to a swivel, connected to about two feet of extensions. It's tight but it can be done. I actually had to put a rubber mallet to the back of the socket to get in the tight spot over the nut. Then I put the swivel on the end of a 12" extension and fed it into the back of the socket by hand. Then I put on a couple more extensions followed by the impact. Let me know if this helps.

bolt removal

if you're worried the fastener will round off,

you can get Irwin (brand) deep well or regular socket (type) bolt "extractors"

if the bolt or fastener messes up, these extractors can be bought at lowes, home depot, autozone or advance auto.

they work great on brake caliper screws also.

Heat the nut with a torch until it glows, then use a deep swivel socket on a long extension to zip it off.

Can a Mod please re-size his image? It's obnoxiously huge and makes reading posts difficult.

Image too Large

BLK250, I tried to resize the image but wasn't able to do it. I wrote the mods and there was no response so I am left with this ridiculously sized image.

I already have a 14 inch extension behind the swivel and the swivel attached to socket - and still no luck getting it on the nut. I tried the other option with the socket directly attached to the extension- no luck and worse.

Regards,
Larry
