horse power

how much ***** power does the a/c take away on averarge? i notice a big difference between running the a/c and not running it. just wander ing if anybody had any numbers for me.

Anywhere between 2 and 5 horses. Depending on the application it may take as much as 10 % of the total available.

what do you mean by depending on the aplication? my truck has a 150 hp 10% of that would be 15hp. so would that be the max horse power loss? thanks for your reply

I wouldn't worry about it. Granted the hotter and more humid it is the harder your compressor has to work. Older units that are not as efficient will require more horses. I would expect you to be in the lower range.

Depending on aplication. A/C will rob more power from a little 4 banger than will a 8 cyl. I was always told they take between 5-10 hp to run.
