I know the wireless ones I tried from the Walmart didn't work at all. I ended up buying a small camera from eBay for 15 and ran it right into my CTS, has worked perfect since day one. For some reason the wireless ones I tried wouldn't connect and tech support could never figure it out.
I had that setup for a while, the 2.5" display is tiny. It was better than nothing for backing up to the boat trailer but I would get static from cordless phones and other wireless cameras all of the time. I ended up hard wiring a camera to a 7" monitor and it is no comparison. This is what I bought and it is very clear and had a great field of vision. No relation to seller just happy with what I bought.

I have that same camera mounted on the back of my travel trailer, and its not really that small, but it has a decent picture, helps me avoid trees and picnic tables
1) wire it in with the reverse lighting from your tail lights and it only powers on when in reverse, very simple very straight forward.
2) Wire to a constant power supply and it will always be on and you can turn the screen on/off via reverse gear and or toggle switch in the cab.
3)Have the camera itself wired into a toggle (upfitter switch if available) and it turns the screen and camera off and on anytime you want to see whats behind you (going foward or back you can power the camera and "double check" the status of a trailer coupler or plug) This is how i have mine wired and when i want to use it i simply flip the upfitter switch and can look back at anytime.
When my camera turns on it is wired so that it automatically shows on my indash touch screen but will not interrupt any music simply shows the back up view.
I could see having the "on demand" rear view with the upfitter switch as a benefit when towing my jeep just to make sure that everything is in order on the trailer.
I like the idea of the backup cam, but I need to figure out a screen setup. I have an Insight CS and don't really want to get a CTS, would love it if there was a direct factory replacement rearview with the screen in it like the f150's had a couple years back.

I love doing things myself for that simple reason i have them the way that works best for me. i install almost all of my own things.

i wired the camera and the screen to the positive lead from my reverse lights. They both come on immediately when put in reverse, i didn't want to have to switch anything on. I originally put it in for backing up to my boat but it is awesome to avoid backing into anything as well. The screen is 7" pretty large, the same size as most double din stereo's.

Is there a hot wire for the reverse lights under the dash?
As a follow-up, I had an Nvision brand, Rear Camera System model installed. The monitor is small @ 2.5" but out of the way and mounted on the dashboard close to the driver side door. The camera is over the license plate and it also has two sensors.
The primary use is for backing up to my trailer and it is great for that. It is wired into the reverse light so it is only on during back-up. Here is the link.
