good crate engine?
anybody know of a place to get a good crate engine. I got and 02 cc, thats got a rod knock
Or I rebuild it myself any tips on that.
Also is there a good source for rebuild injectors?

I have not heard that much about new long blocks, Clay at Riffraffdiesel.com used to sell them, but they are not listed that I can find any longer.

I'll second Rich's thought on the video.
Crate engine? Some builders, I think the Ford reman unit doesn't have a good reputation. I've rebuilt one, sent the machine work out.....it's expensive, heavy and you are gonna learn about things like injector cups.

It's going to get all new cups, I've rebuilt a couple of 7.3 idi. This is a for hire job.
He had a bad injector that he run too long, I changed the injector and the smoke went away.
After that I drove it some to see if it would go away, it got worse and there are shavings in the oil.
I was always much better with wrenches than with sppeling.

I have a good 96 block and a wreaked 97, but this tread changed my mind on putting the 97 in it.

Look for a IHC school bus engine for a short block to rebuild. There are a ton of them out there and cheaper that a Ford 7.3. Just make sure you get the improved 7.3 block with the upper added webs, 97+ IIRC. The final machining for the Ford 7.3 is the only difference, no # cyl is machined a little bigger for the heat. The only other difference is IHC uses a mechanical fuel pump on top of the engine and Ford uses a electronic pump. The Ford block uses a welsh plug to fill in the mechanical fuel pump hole.

You could have a windowed block and Ford takes the core without deduction.
The remanufacture video is pretty cool. They don't re-sleeve. They robot spin weld and bore.
Hmmm... then what about cavitation on the other side of the existing sleeves? They say they xray or some such thing so would that catch any cavitation divits on the other side of the sleeves? Or do they bore so deep and then build up so much weld material ao that it doesn't matter? Inquiring minds want to know...
And not only is the warranty 2 years, it is unlimited mileage which covers commercial vehicles as well as personal vehicles. And supposedly the warranty is nationwide.

I haven't tore it apart just pulled the pan off, I'll get some pics when I tare it down,
As for a ford rebuild last time I asked it was 10,000 bucks for one and you had to pay ford to install it for warranty, I could rebuild it my self a couple times for that,
That spin weld sounds like a neat process
If I'm going to look in to a short block for know any ideas?
