On the way to work this morning, a spark plug wire melted against a header, shorted and killed the motor.
1. Got replacement Wire without trouble shooting since the truck was on the side of the highway. This did not fix - No Spark
2. Got a working coil from the garage, plugged it in. This did not fix - No Spark
I checked all the fuses under the driverside dash, none are blown (cant verify the ckt breakers), but I read on a few previous post that the ignition power has a 10wire fusible link. I can not find this, or an image of it. Anyone got a link or image so I can go buy one and try it out?
Motor turns over, has plenty of fuel pressure, and no problem getting air...so Spark is the only missing Link!
Most likely the ignition module on the side of the distributor went dead. This is very common on this vintage of Ford vehicles. You need a special tool to remove the ignition module.
Do you have power going to the coil through one of the small wires hooked on to the coil with the ignition switch turned on?
The PIP inside the distributor could also be the problem, but usually with that the engine will restart after sitting a while.
Thanks for the info. Weather has been really bad the last 24hrs so I did not have a chance to really work on it. I changed the ECM relay, that was shot, but it was corrosion not an electrical burn. ICM was my next part to replace. If the suns up at all today I will hopefully get it swapped.
