Question for the diesel geniuses....I have serious clearance problems squishing all this stuff in front of the fan. I picked up a 2000SD I/C and I just dont see any way to get it all in there other than repositioning the engine and notching the firewall. My engine is within 1" of the firewall.Trying to have enough space for condensor as well.
What do you think about using a really wide but short I/C and mounting it in a custom bumper and use some heavy mesh for protection?
I found a 30x8 I/C pretty easy but I'm going to lose alot of surface area.
Any thoughts any negative performance effects?
Only thing I can think of is not having a fan to pull alot of air through the I/C.

So that's the room you have to work with ayy? I knew it was going to be close from seeing others 67-69 builds. Unlike the 70-72's you can't trim the back side of the grille. How much room exactly is there between the fan clutch and back side of grille? Might be able to run a IC below the radiator on an angle like 45* towards the ground like some import tuners run there v mount setups. Just need to find a odd shaped IC that has sufficient cooling area. Or like you said if your building a big plate bumper you could incorporate one Into that. That's the one reason I'm glad I have a 71 grille
Thanks for the idea 72redneck. I saw one of those on CL locally a while back but never researched them. I think they came on buses IIRC.
From the tab that the lower part of the grill mounts to I have 7" exactly. Leaves me less than an inch if everything works as planned but I still have to fit a condensor and t cooler. The t cooler is no problem but the condensor might be a challenge.
I drug out the original rusted out core support and am going to start cutting to see what happens.
I'm willing to reposition the engine if I have to keep the 67 grill. Just kinda don't want to.
