226 fuel pump change

Getting my f-3 ready for truckstop so I want to change out fuel pump and distributor vacuum pump to avoid problems. Any suggestions on how to get the fuel pump out and the new one in?
Thanks

There is an access panel on the inner fender. Take off the tire and remove the panel. With them out of the way, you'll have a clear view and reach to the fuel pump.

Well there's something I didn't know! Seems easier than leaning over into the engine compartment like I did last summer. Leaning was probably still less of a hassle than wrestling those big wheel nuts and rims off and back on though.

Yup. These beauties were designed with repair in mind.

Pulling the wheel off is what I was trying to avoid but it does look like the only way to do it........the heat shield over the manifold seems to block access from the top.....thank you, I will try it again today

It's almost impossible to get the left side nut onto the stud unless you pull the wheel off and remove the access panel. At least that's what I found.

Luckily, someone on FTE told me about this panel and removing the wheel.

Well installing the fuel pump is going along fine.....few things to put back before moving on to the vacuum pump on the distributer, many thanks for the tips, removing the tire was the only way to go.
Any tips on the vac pump?.......do you have to remove the breaker plate or can I wiggle the arm out of there?

I'll just add that I removed and installed the pump on my truck twice from the top before I knew there was an easier way. Yet another reason I love this forum!
