I have finally argued with the Stealer (dealer)and got a better price on two actuators. He had the ***** to laugh at me when I told him I was going replace them myself, saying I would be back to get them to fix what I broke. Does anyone have the procedure from a repair manual that they could email me. Or is there a web page that shows the procedure?
The information you seek is spread over several pages of the service manual. Your best bet is to buy a copy (two volume set, three if you inculde the wiring diagrams ... which I highly recommend) of the Ford Factory Service manual.
Those books have already saved me much more than what they cost ... which was about $225 for the two volumes & wiring diagrams. I got mine from helminc.com ... the original publisher for all sorts of service manuals. You'll also find a list of TSBs available for sale.
A dealer wanted $110 to replace one of my door-ajar switches. Told me it was $20 for the switch & $90 labor. I have developed a good rapport with a fellow behind the parts counter, and it cost me less than $7 to replace it myself. Granted, it wasn't the easiest of tasks, but the book was priceless for little tidbits of information.
Well, I replaced two actuators today. About an hour and fifteen for both. HAHAHAHA,,,,, maybe Ford should hire me to do it for them. The rep told me 2 hours labor each. The lift gate took about 15min, but the driver door took about an hour. Now that I know what I am doing, (I didnt use any manual or reference) I am going to replace the two rear doors, they are getting sluggish, and will hang occasionally.
Landyot, can you get me actuators for $7 each? Let me know, I will take two for each side.
