Okay I need help. My 351w had her bottom end go boom and I have since picked up a complete rebuilt 302. I ve worked on mostley chevs growing up but finally found my way and went ford a few years back. My question is what can I use and what do I need for the swap. my 351 is a 82 and the 302 is I think a mid 70s out of a bronco 1 . Thanks for any and all help.
Is the 302 complete? If not you will need a 302 intake, 302 distributor, and the exhaust will need to be narrowed because the block is smaller than the 351. If the 302 is a pre 1980 model you can use the flywheel from the 351 because they are the same balance weight(28oz), but if it's an '80 or later it needs a 50oz flexplate.
Thanks so much. The 302 was converted to fueli but is going back to carb run. I have a dist, intake and am curently running duels for exhaust. the motor is most def pre 80s so thats great news for me because not one ford guy in my town could tell me either way about the flywheel and that was my biggest concern. Again thanks for the good news and cheers

Hey Paul I was wondering if u knew the part number for the 28oz flywheel and its location.Im thinking I might have had the wrong flywheel on the 351 because I was always having problems with my starter linning up proper. get this when I bought the ol girl the starter was shimmed and went through 3 starters before the bottom end went pop. The 302 is a 78 and the guy I got the truck from is trying to tell me there is 2 flywheels for that year and the motor is balanced by the cam shaft.I might be asking stupid questions but I just dont know thanks for any help. Darrell
Motor is balanced by counter weights on the flywheel or flexplate and the balancer. There are 2 different sized flywheel/flexplates for these engines a 157 tooth and a 164 tooth with the larger one most commonly found in trucks. There are also different flexplate for different auto transmissions, you need an AOD version for an AOD and a different one for a C6, mixing these up could cause minor alignment problems or in the case of the AOD could also cause major transmission damage when the TC is pushed back into the pump.
