Hello there so I have a 79 f100 that I am putting 96' explorer seats in . Got the tracks all made, decided to have the seats re done as a cat pissed on them.
went to talk to the guy doing the seats today and he can get new foam and wont make new foam. So my question which seats weather it be from an F series or E series has the same bolt pattern as the 96' style seats. so I dont have to make new brackets. Will the fox body mustang seats work as well?
I don't know about seats from F series or E series, but a lot of the smaller chassis trucks (Aerostar, Ranger, Explorer) share bolt patterns with passenger cars like Escorts and Mustangs. There was a guy named AllanD from one of the Ranger forums who had a seat list for seats that would fit in a Ranger. Search for AllanD seat list and you should find it.
I just go to the u-pull-it yard and try different seats from different models on whatever model I have to double check interchangeability. I put Explorer seats in my Aerostar. One thing to watch out for is how the trim fits on the seat. Some have trim where the seat attaches to the base/rail and also trim that covers the pivot. If you're going to have the seat upholstery done, then the upholstery can probably be made to cover what the bottom trim piece covered.
From what I've seen, the seats have several sets of holes that fit on a variety of seat bases or tracks. Not all the holes are tapped so you'll have to tap them yourself with an 8mm X 1.25 tap.
