I put Ranger seats in my Aerostar. Explorer seats should fit as well and it seems like the fabric is nicer. A lot of other Ford seats will fit, but regardless of what you get, you may need to tap some holes in the seat frame. Typically, there are two or three sets of holes, but not all are tapped.
You probably won't find the exact same fabric on the seats from other models, but you should be able to find a similar color (grey, beige, etc.).
I just go to the U-Pull-It type of yard and look for seats I like. Then I remove them and install them on what I plan to put them in. It doesn't take long to remove the seats. Four bolts is all, sometimes eight if you have to remove the seat with the rails attached and then remove the rails from the seat. If you're going to buy seats from someone who has already removed them, remove the seat rails from your Ranger and take them with you to confirm the bolt holes line up.
Buckets from a Tempo and Mustang will bolt on to your tracks, too. Explorer seats are a direct fit, as are Aerostar...but make sure it's an Aerostar. I got some Windstar seats and managed to rig the driver's seat to fit but it wasn't easy...van seats are real nice but the downside is they recline backwards but won't fold forward...not so whippy.
wow, hiback buckets from an aerostar would be nice in my ranger!
The only thing I don't like about my Aerostar seats (other than the fabric seems thin) is that the seat back does go upright as much as my Ranger's. They're OK in the second row (which is where they ended up). With my back against the seat back, I would have to move the seat too close to the steering wheel. My arms would be at a comfortable distance, but then it was too close for my legs.
