i have a 97 f250 with an auto trans in it. I was pulling my snowmobile trailer and the lock up converter kept unlocking then would lock back up. I hooked a switch up along the side of the road to lock the converter in. with it locked in it was like I had no power. looked up on here on my phone what it was doing to get help and one thing I found was check speed sensor. crawled under n unplugged it cleaned it up some plugged it back in and away I went, worked for the rest of the 200 miles home. went and bought a new speed sensor n changed it, removed my switch for lock up and I have no power. put the pedal to the floor and I just wont zip rite up to speed. shifts up kinda hard and down shifts early and a little hard too. changed the throttle switch cause sometimes you could push the pedal and It wouldn't do any thing.
looking for some other things to try or look at.
Well, I could make a guess but then our auto expert Mark will come on and make me look like the fool I am and then not tell me why I was wrong. So, my suggestion is to change the title of your thread to '97 auto issue' and Mark might show up. He really is an expert, just doesn't have any bed side manners! LOL
thanks for the reply Glen. I don't think it is a trans issue, I think it is motor.
I can put It to the floor and it will only go like 45 or 50.
unplugged the speed sensor n plugged it back in and it took off and shifted good. replaced sensor thinking that would do it but it doesn't seem to be the problem.
going to play with it some more tmw.
I see that now. The BARO is under the dash, somewhere up above the right knee. I never did find it. The IAT (intake air temperature) is by the air filter, I don't know why its reading high??
IAT - someone probably removed it, do you have an aftermarket air filter. It won't affect anything such as your symptoms.
BARO - like Glenn indicated under the dash, three wire connector. Sounds like its bad. I've read on here a bad BARO will cause poor engine performance and transmission shifts. IMO fix that first.
got a another truck and pulled the baro out of that and plugged it in and took it for a test run. truck ran great. shifted good and the lock up worked too.
hope this does it.
